Online Gambling Languages

Once upon a time, you may have been hard-pressed to find an online casino that operated in your language. In fact, up until fairly recently, you would have been quite limited unless you were comfortable reading and speaking English.

If the Internet stands for anything, it is choices. The more widespread the online gambling craze became, the more countries wanted in on the game…and therefore, the more online casinos were willing to translate and integrate more languages into their operations.

English: still the most widespread, though there are actually some fine online casinos that do not offer English as an option. Of course, an online casino USA or UK will almost certainly be based in English. Whether you love or hate the fact that English has become the lingua franca of the online experience, it is a solid choice for most people.

Chinese: simplified or Mandarin? The mere fact that we can ask this question means that the options for Chinese players have come of age. Of course, the sheer number of Chinese players made this a necessary step — but then again, China isn’t exactly the most permissive place when it comes to online gambling…uh, unlike the US? Yeah, sure…

Europe, South America and parts of Africa: you can pretty much bet on the big Romance languages being supported by major online casinos. French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese top the lists (in fact, if there are only two languages at an online casino, it’s a safe bet that at least one of them is one of those four), and Romanian is nowhere near as rare as you might expect.

Germanic languages are not left out in the cold by any means (sorry, labored joke there). German is as big as you’d expect, but a surprising amount of online casinos support Swedish, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, and Finnish (and we’ve already mentioned English). Afrikaans, however, is still rare.

Slavic: Russian and Polish are relatively common at online slots casinos or any other online gambling destination, though not exactly widespread.

Languages we’d like to see more of: Japanese, which is offered on several online casinos but nowhere near enough. Hindi is surprisingly nearly absent, though (as with all of these languages) we may simply be missing some examples.
